Thomas Geoffrey Wilkinson was born on 5 February 1948 in Leeds, West Riding of Yorkshire, to Marjorie and Thomas Wilkinson.
When he was eleven years old, his family moved to Kitimat, British Columbia, in Canada. They lived there for five years before coming back to the UK and running a bar in Cornwall. This was a big turning point in his path.
At the University of Kent in Canterbury, Wilkinson pursued studies in English and American literature. Acting and directing captured Wilkinson’s attention during his time at college, and he became involved with the University of Kent Drama Society (now known as T24 Drama Society).

Career
Thomas Geoffrey Wilkinson started performing at the Nottingham Playhouse in 1973. He made his movie debut in 1976 with the thriller “Smuga Cienia,” which was handled by Andrzej Wajda and based on Joseph Conrad’s short tale “The Shadow Line.”
He became a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company and made his West End debut as Horatio in the RSC’s 1981 staging of William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” at the Aldwych Theatre.
He received a Laurence Olivier Award nomination for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for this performance. His filmography included small roles in the British thriller “Parker” (1984), the biographical drama “Sylvia” (1985), and the mystery “Wetherby” (1985).
At the same time, he played prominent parts in British television series. Raymond Gould’s performance in the 1986 ITV drama “First Among Equals” was one such role. During this time, he also appeared on the West End stage in Henrik Ibsen’s “Ghosts” as Pastor Manders.
He won a BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his performance in the comedy-drama “The Full Monty” (1997), in which he played a major role. He gained recognition on a global scale as a result. During that year, he portrayed Hugh Stratton in the romantic drama “Oscar and Lucinda” and the Marquess of Queensberry in the biographical drama “Wilde.”
His flexibility was further demonstrated by her performance in the British romantic costume drama “Shakespeare in Love” (1998), which won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.
Wilkinson, who played bipolar lawyer Arthur Edens in “Michael Clayton,” won plaudits from critics all around the world and was nominated for an Academy Award in 2007.
